Torchlight and The Common Space Common Humanity Group Team Up

Our Patchwork Pavillion workshop paired up with The Common Space Common Humanity group last week to help produce textiles to deck-out our acoustic stage at this years Kendal Torchlight.

Common Space is a refugee support group in South Lakeland which has been bridging the gap between refugee families, Cumbria County Council and other agencies and the communities in which the families now live. Their approach focuses on a principal of neighbourliness, offering a network of ‘familiar strangers’ too newly arrived and isolated or excluded people who have been displaced by war, violent conflict or persecution. Their objective is to see refugee individuals and families able to participate in local space in the same way as any other in our communities. They do this through providing, one-to-one mentoring, social events and activities, providing connections and working to evolve new and independent social networks.

We so enjoyed hosting them at Kates Workshop and the textiles they produced were really beautiful. It will provide a magical and chilled out space to enjoy the acoustic music during the festival.
