Kate is a costume designer, art teacher and community artist, based in Kendal. While training in Textile Design, at Central St Martins, London, she found placements at Bernam and Nathan’s costumiers (now part of the Angels group), and at the Royal Opera House props department, heightened her passion for costume and she started her (now extensive) collection while still completing her degree!
Creating costumes for theatre companies and organisations in the north-west of England, Kate has costumed productions at venues including: The Epstein Theatre, Liverpool; The Forum, Barrow-in Furness, The Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal and The Old Laundry Theatre, Bowness – as well as taking commissions for scene-painting, murals and banner-making. Kate also works with a number of community groups, schools and colleges, running textile and costume workshops and courses.

Why I like being involved in Torchlight
I have been part of the Kendal Torchlight Carnival creative team for the last few years, helping to bring even more theatricality and sparkle to an already much-loved and spectacular event. I have particularly enjoyed our partnership with Kendal College working with them to create costumes for performance work.
