This years theme is Scrap Legends and Torchlight has been bringing the carnival spirit out into Kendal with community workshops running right across Kendal this summer. Locations including Hallgarth Community Centre, Sandylands Methodist Church, Kendal Leisure Centre and Abbot Hall Social Club. Each community hub has a different theme and they have been making, crafting, building and drumming to create a procession entries ready for the Friday night procession and opening ceremony in September.
They have been re-imagining stories, icons and legends all out of scrap materials! Bringing to life the Patchwork Pegasus in Heron Hill, the Scrap Dragon in Hallgarth, the Iron Giant in Kirkbarrow and the Litter Bug in Sandylands!
Workshops have included costume making with Ragtag, lantern building with Love Arts, Drumming with Drum Nation and giant puppet big build workshops. We’re two workshops down that have been a smash hit and have two more to go on 20th August and 3rd September.
