Kendal Torchlight Carnival - Programme of Events

A number of Kendal Town Centre roads will close to traffic. Roads will re-open after the procession has finished.
All Evening
Taylor's Fairground on New Road next to the River Kent.
7.30pm
Start of the Annual Kendal Torchlight Carnival from the Shell Garage on Lound Road.
The first section of the parade will be the faster cars, there will then be a short gap before the main procession sets off. Both go north along Aynam Road, across Miller Bridge and then along New Road.
The procession carries on by turning left up Stramongate and right into Blackhall Road, left onto Sandes Avenue and then into Stricklandgate, Highgate and Kirkland, turning across Miller Bridge and back along Lound Road to finish.
The parade features:
- Bygone Bikes - back to the days of Penny farthings and boneshakers with costumed riders.
- Dancers - teams of traditional country and folk dancers.
- Gentle Giants - teams of heavy and working horses with drays from the 1900s.
- Steam Engines - large and miniature, puffing with pride and nostalgia around the historic market town.
- Spectacular Floats & Walking Groups - decorated with this year's theme.
- Marching, Pipe and Display bands from across the United Kingdom - including nationally acclaimed carnival groups.
- And Special Guests!
