Kendal Torchlight Thank You Celebration

Posted Tuesday, 22 November 2016, 9.28am

A newly published survey shows how Kendal Torchlight impacts the local economy. Join us for a special thank you event at The Castle Green Hotel.

Every year Kendal Torchlight Carnival relies on hundreds of hours of voluntary effort and has entertained three generations over the last 46 years. Throughout the 2016 Torchlight Carnival and Kendal Street Party we engaged in the first ever survey to attain exactly how the events affected our local economy.

Now we have the results, we can officially show how the total economic impact of Kendal Torchlight 2016 is estimated at: £1,535,678.

Helen Tate of Red Research who undertook the survey commented:

“There are lots of positives, including the even providing a strong draw for visitors, high satisfaction rates, strong spend figures, and with such a low cost to put on the event, one of the highest returns on investment I have ever seen! For every pound spent on staging the event, you managed to bring in almost £55 for the local economy.”

The full findings of the research are attached or can be downloaded here.

To mark this announcement and to provide a special thank you to all those who have supported Kendal Torchlight we’re hosting a celebration event on Monday 28th November at The Castle Green Hotel, Kendal. The evening will include special thanks to our entrants, thanks to our charity collectors, thanks to our volunteers and a BIG THANKS to all the local businesses who have supported us – including those who came forward to replace the stolen collection money. It all starts at 7pm and will run until about 8.30pm.

We will also mark the event as the official handover of our charity collection to our charity partners: Manna House, St John’s Hospice, South Lakeland Age UK and Animal Rescue.

The previous team leaders of The Kendal Torchlight Carnival have been invited, together with the charities, doners, volunteers and entrants for 2016. Councillor Giles Archibald, the Leader of South Lakeland District Council, will be present to say a thank you on behalf of the District.

The dates of The Kendal Torchlight Carnival 2017 are Friday 15th September, for the evening procession and The Street Party will on Saturday 16th September.
